Judging from the large number of movie theater PSA’s directed at people sporting headpieces, it would seem that defiant hat-wearers were the turn of the century equivalent of people who leave their cellphones on at the movies today.
Women’s elaborate hats caused particular consternation; as another slide read: ”LADIES WILL TAKE OFF THEIR HATS. WOMEN WILL LEAVE THEM ON.”
