"Everyone ignores the first three seasons where he was routinely saving everyone’s asses. He was the one plotting the course, plotting the jumps, putting up the firewalls, doing science with Baltar, but when he pointed out that election fraud everyone was like “Grr, he sucks.” So he went and acted as a double agent on New Caprica, saved everyone’s collective asses again, going the shit beat out of him for being a supposed traitor, went back to saving everyone’s asses, then got shot by a Cylon (that was never investigated/Anders never got in trouble of course) and Helo wouldn’t let him go for 14 hours so of course when they got back he had to lose his leg but he was expected to get back to work 2-3 days later, then after the discovery that what they’ve been searching for for four years is a shithole his BFF kills herself and he tries to put her skull back together and then he’s sent on a leave that ends up with murder and him murdering a Cylon and then the Admiral’s like “we’re BFF with the Cylons now” and he’s like “did you just decide to ignore the past four years” so he turns to Zarek and everyone hates him for trying to stand up for what was right and he gets shot and everyone cheers."
