JAKE FOGELNEST: Okay, now I will say something. -
I have known Lesely Arfin for eleventy-billion years. There’s no one better on earth than Lesley Arfin. Lesley is my friend.
Lesley writes on the HBO show Girls so naturally, some people wrote some stuff on the Internet about her. The stuff they wrote made me pretty mad. The kind of mad that…
“Lesley Arfin is my friend, and I don’t think she’s racist or tone-deaf or try-hard or anything and a the best way for me to defend her from those charges is by linking to a post called ‘The Lynching of Lesley Arfin’ by Gavin McInnes.”
it’s not actually a grave injustice (let alone a “lynching,” christ) when a bunch of people say your friend writes like a huge asshole. maybe she just writes like a huge asshole.
“I’m delighted that person is Gavin McInnes.” Wait, you mean this Gavin McInnes? Delightful!
JESUS CHRIST. I wish these stupid fucking “ironic” white hipsters would shut the hell up already. For the record for the two (maybe?) people that might care:
- I don’t think Girls is racist. I think Lena Dunham wrote about what she knew, and her group of friends doesn’t happen to include black people. I think she’s handled this all fairly well and I look forward to see how she addresses it next season.
- I don’t think Lesley Arfin is racist. I think she’s a stupid fucking hipster who thinks it’s edgy to push boundaries with unfunny, offensive bullshit like her Precious tweet. I don’t think she understands how much what she says may offend people, and rather than trying to understand, she hides behind her stupid fucking racist hipster friends like Gavin McInnes.
- While I don’t agree with everything being said, I think this has all opened up an interesting discussion about race. It’s interesting and sad to me that so many women of color are offended by something that seemed harmless to me (the lack of minorities on Girls, that is), and some of the articles being written about it (Jezebel, Racialicious, etc) are very thoughtful and eye-opening.
- I’m sad that Jake Fogelnest thinks a stupid fucking racist hipster article by GAVIN MCINNES of all people should serve as a defense for a stupid fucking racist comment tweeted by his friend. I get wanting to defend your friend, but seriously. For real?
Sorry for the long rant, but holy shit. What is wrong with everyone?
